Apply to the 92Y Dance Therapy Alternate Route Program!
Summer Program 2024-2026
Dance Therapy Program Director: Dr. Miriam Roskin Berger
The Harkness Dance Center of the 92nd Street Y offers an intensive alternate route program in Dance/Movement Therapy, scheduled for three weeks in each of three summers. Admission is through application and audition. A new program of 405 hours will begin in the summer of 2024 during the last 3 weeks of June. The program offers the dance/movement therapy course requirements of 270 hours for alternate route training, plus the required 90 hours of Movement Observation and Analysis and 45 hours of Group Process in DMT. All courses are approved by the ADTA as meeting the requirements for the R-DMT credential.

Methods of Dance Movement Therapy II (34 hours)
Group Process in Dance/Movement Therapy (45 hours)
Movement Psychodiagnostic Inventory Movement Observation & Analysis (45 hours)
Summer 2026 - 135 hours
Methods of Dance/Movement Therapy III (45 hours)
Theoretical Foundations of Dance/Movement Therapy III (45 hours)
Dance/Movement Therapy with Psychiatric Clients (22.5 hours)
Dance/Movement Therapy with Children (22.5 hours)
The remaining alternate route requirements are the responsibility of each student:
Research Design and Methodology (45 hours or 3 credits)
Psychology/Human Behavior (225 hours or 15 credits)
The above courses must be taken on the graduate level in an academic setting.
Kinesiology and Anatomy (15 hours or 1 credit)
Fieldwork: 200 hours 3 months fulltime or its equivalent.
Internship: 700 hours fulltime or equivalent.
Students working towards the Alternate Route in Dance/Movement Therapy must have a Masters degree in another discipline when they complete their DMT training in order to apply to the ADTA to become a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist R-DMT.
